Pt. Reyes Green Demonstration Project
Point Reyes National Seashore, California
This was a Recreational Fee Demonstration Project conducted by Point Reyes National Seashore on the Northern California coast. The goal was to use green building principles to remodel a 950 square foot restroom facility located at the Bear Valley Visitor Center parking lot and picnic area.
Sustainable design
We served as green building consultants, and provided specifications, drawings, and material recommendations. Our emphasis was on meeting PWR Directives 47 “Energy Management and Water Conservation” and 48 “Sustainable Design and Construction Practices.”
Recycle and reuse
- The existing building foundation was reused
- Over 60% of lumber, all copper and cast iron piping, all porcelain plumbing fixtures, and all electrical wire and fixtures were recycled or reused
Green building materials
We selected materials that met environmental criteria and including energy efficiency, sustainable, and low maintenance and long-lasting.
Energy efficient
- Roof-mounted 1 KW photovoltaic array solar panels
- Roof-mounted solar hot water heating panel
